What The Cards is
A web application for sustainability reporting under ESRS and VSME, built for the teams who put the report together.
The Cards is a web application for writing a sustainability report under the European standards: the full ESRS set under CSRD, or the lighter VSME standard for small and medium-sized companies.
The report is broken into cards. Each card is one disclosure from the standard, and each disclosure holds the individual questions, called data points, that the standard asks you to answer. You work through them in whatever order suits you, leave notes for colleagues, attach the evidence behind a number, and see at a glance how much is left.
What you can do with it
- Write the report. Create a report for a financial year, mark which disclosures are material to your business, and answer the data points in each one.
- Work with colleagues. Assign a responsible person per topic or disclosure, discuss individual data points in comment threads, and track how far each answer is from being ready.
- Keep the evidence. Attach the spreadsheet, invoice or policy document that a number came from, so an auditor can follow the trail.
- Get help from AI. Ask an assistant about a data point, have it draft a value from your own documents and previous reports, and review it before anything is saved.
- Reuse last year. Copy a report forward, including to a newer version of the standard, and review only the answers that did not carry over cleanly.
- Publish it. Turn a finished report into a public web page and a PDF.
Who uses it
Most work is done by the person responsible for sustainability reporting, with contributions from colleagues in finance, HR, procurement and operations who own specific numbers. An administrator manages who gets access to what. An auditor or reviewer is usually given read access, or reads the published report.
